SIM2 Domino 4H review with video. SIM2 hits a home run!

By JoeRod
It has been a very long time since I have had a DLP projector in my possession. I was not sure what to expect after installing it and getting it ready. The second it was on I immediately saw that razor sharp image with colorful, nice blacks. This was better than the DLP image I remember from the past. Way better! Sim2 has put a lot into the Domino 4H and it shows.
Right off the bat we jumped into a movie using the new Kaleidescape Strato V. The GUI (image below) looked crisp. The new movie Afraid looked terrific. With a great soundtrack this movie is a creepy, fun ride. AI is taking over the world! The image had good colors with very good shadow depth. Close ups revealed every detail on their faces. The DLP sharpness was astounding. My biggest gripe in the past was the RBE (Rainbow Effect) I would occasionally see. My Ex-Wife used to get headaches and could see it in seconds. I have not been able to spot anything and I have been really trying.
Set up was fairly easy. I was able to dial it in quickly. The out of the box performance was spot on. I only spent a few minutes tweaking. The remote (pic above) is easy to learn. The buttons are well placed and have direct access to many of the Domino 4H’s key functions. It’s backlit (very bright) and a little heavier than most remotes. Still, it has the feel of a high end remote.
The GUI is easy to read (pics above) and well laid out. In the Display section you can tweak the image settings as well as do your Edge settings. A lot of the high end projectors I get to play with have this feature so it is great seeing it on the Domino 4h. Besides having Image Shift you also get a cool Digital Zoom option. For those that haven’t given in and purchased a VP this is really nice to find here. Helping to minimize those pesky black bars on our 16:9 screens is really appreciated. And just a few clicks did not distort the image. The Set Up area had what you would expect. I did like their Test Pattern options (grid pic above.) The Info section besides the usual resolution coming in and refresh rate but it also tells you which image mode you’re currently in. I personally really enjoy the Cinema mode with Gamma at 2.4. Under Image Settings I couldn’t watch it without Auto Adaptive Contrast on. The image was on steroids with it engaged, in a good way. Under Enhanced Image Processing you can Enhance Details, Enhance Colors and tweak Motion Compensation. I will say the Color Enhance worked well with sports like football. Not so much with movies. It gave the actors all a slight tan. One other cool thing about navigating the GUI… You can go up and through the selections without having to go all the way back up and down. Now that is really nice!
Speaking of football… My ultimate tests have always been about the game. The uniforms, grass, the motion of the players and ball. I was able to test the Domino 4h with a few different games. I forgot how sharp, clean and lifelike sports look on a high end DLP. The Domino 4h easily kept up with the action. The crisp image combined with bright colors was a huge hit here. We did prefer the Cinema mode for the best overall image which ended up proving to be the best for both Movies and Sports. I really liked how the graphics on the screen appeared. Almost as if they were floating in the room. Again, if you’re a DLP fan you will LOVE football on the SIM2. Touchdown!
I need to state how the black glass finish makes the Domino 4h look like a projector worth 50k! It is elegant and screams class. They say it is for medium sized screens with its 3000 Lumens and I will say it had zero issue lighting up my 144″ screen.  The Single-chip DMD 0.66” 4K UHD the Domino 4h has is the real deal. There are three Motion Compensation settings and a RGBY Color Wheel without a white sector. This makes those vibrant colors come alive for sports! Finally, what does the Domino 4h do so well to make Movies special?
SIM2 says they began working on HDR more than 13 years ago. The
results make an astounding at home cinematic experience. Just add the popcorn!
