Y2k24 BUG. Theaters shut down worldwide, movies would not play due to content encryption issues.
In a commercial cinema, the movie theater receives a digital key along with each movie allowing the projector and movie to handshake for proper playback. Each piece of equipment in the video chain has a serial number which becomes part of that encryption and key. In this case, a large portion of certificates in the cinema servers expired, therefore disabling the system and leaving the cinema unable to playback the movie. Many cinemas had no choice but to shut down the entire cinema, worldwide.
This has affected theaters with the Sony 515 and 815 projectors, some Christies projectors as well as GDC servers.
